Claudia Leisinger is a multi-award-winning freelance photographer and videographer with a focus on portrait, documentary photography and audiovisual work, who has lived and worked in London for more than 15 years.
Since her master’s degree in photojournalism and documentary photography at the London College of Communication in 2007, she has regularly worked for magazines (Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg), NGOs, foundations and institutes (Red Cross, Earth Security) as well as for commercial clients (Airbnb, Hunter, Keds).
However, the common thread through their work is their self-initiated, long-term projects. Stories like "The Last Of The Billingsgate Fish Porters", a documentary about how 150 men lost their jobs and at the same time a piece of centuries-old London working culture and tradition disappeared.
The resulting audiovisual piece was selected for Night Contact, London’s Multimedia Festival, published in the Guardian UK and exhibited in a solo exhibition at the MAZ Gallery, Switzerland.
“In Common” a three year long exploration of Mitcham Common and its resulting immersive landscape photo series has been published by Another Place Press as a Zine within its “field notes” series in March 2022.
Her latest piece is "Letters To Our Children", a 5-minute video collaboration with Extinction Rebellion Families in which people around the world express their thoughts, concerns and wishes regarding the environmental crisis in letter form to the next generation.
Her portraits have won several awards and have been exhibited internationally as part of Portrait of Britain, Portrait of Humanity, KL International Awards and currently as part of Eyes on Main Street.
She is a founding member of Collective Eye, a grassroots podcast www.collectiveeyepodcast.com
Right now she is working on a collaborative video project with young migrants and refugees living in Switzerland together with Family-Help, a Swiss nonprofit organisation.
Here in the UK she is currently working on a series called Rebel Portraits.
And she is also creating a photo book with her grandfather, Hermann Leisinger’s, photos of street photographs of Europe between 1932-64 . Please have a look at the archive link below, a webpage dedicated to his photos and to the progress of this project.
